I’m Cole Gorton, and I would be delighted to serve all your real estate needs. I’m one of the truly fortunate people who was actually born in Whitefish, Montana, and then raised in the Flathead Valley for most of my life. Having lived in this area for so many years provides me with incredible, firsthand knowledge of the treasures that make Montana living such a stimulating and rewarding pleasure.

My first skiing experiences on Big Mountain (now Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort) during my preschool years cultivated my love for the slopes at a very young age. My affection for the Montana Rocky Mountains and their wild places continues to this day. I’ve watched the changes in Whitefish over the last 30 years as it emerged from its humble Stumptown beginnings to become the beautiful upscale living and recreation mecca it is today. Quite remarkably, though, Whitefish, like many other growing and vibrant Flathead Valley towns, retains its small-town community feel, where neighbors know each other, and notice the ebb and flow of daily life around them.

I’ve always had a great passion for the outdoors, including backcountry venues, rivers, lakes, and mountains. I love to be on the water, whether paddling, rafting, or motoring. Hunting and fishing are both practical and spiritual pursuits for me; I process my own meat and fish from every harvest of nature’s bounty. Throughout a lifetime of those experiences, I’ve come to know Northwest Montana up close and personal. We are so fortunate to have easy access to some of the best wild places on the planet. That “backyard” access allows us to engage in many of these activities on a moment’s notice, spontaneously, often on the same day that we’ve spent hours taking care of the other more mundane responsibilities of life.

I value physical fitness, and I’ve been dedicated for many years now to taking good care of my body. I’m inquisitive about all aspects of fitness including diet. I spent much of my young adulthood pursuing a career as a gym rat, first lifting weights for many hours each week (for years) and more recently as a dedicated practitioner in the martial art of Jiu-Jitsu. I love assistant coaching in this discipline when it’s needed, which gives me a chance to share my passion with all ages, especially kids. It’s very fulfilling to see the self-confidence that begins to emerge in young students who participate in Jiu-Jitsu.

I enjoy travel and I’ve visited many of our beautiful states, particularly in the northwest, as well as a couple of other countries. I lived in Hawaii for a brief time but coming home to my native Montana has been a great choice for me. I thrive in the mountains, and I need time on the rivers and lakes in order to feel completely secure. Montana is my place, and Montanans are my people.

“I am in love with Montana. For other states, I have admiration, respect, recognition, even some affection, but with Montana it is love, and it’s difficult to analyze love when you’re in it.” ~ John Steinbeck
